ESSENCE OF SCULPTURE

Designed by Rietveld in 1918, Red & Blue is a design armchair in the guise of a Rationalist geometric sculpture. A genuine masterpiece of design, among the foremost examples of Neoplasticism promoted by the Dutch De Stijl movement.

Rietveld worked on the early prototypes of this high-backed armchair interpreting the philosophy of spatial organization through the use of flat surfaces and monochrome spaces that intersect.

Birch plywood with edges and top in beech veneer.

Structure

Solid beech.

Seat finish

Polyester paint, semi-gloss, blue colors.
