The “This Will Be The Place” book presented in China during a series of design talks with architect Zhao Yang.

Cassina has just returned from Shanghai and Beijing where it held design talks to present the pioneering book “This Will Be The Place”, edited by Felix Burrichter, which explores contemporary social behaviour and its possible impact on the future of interiors.

The talks took place on November 23rd at the Cassina Shanghai Showroom, opened one year ago, and on November 25th during the opening of the 350m2 mono-brand store in Beijing in collaboration with the local partner Classic Living.

During the events, Chinese architect Zhao Yang, one of the contributors of the book, expressed his idea on the rediscovery of rural vernacular and a return to nature as a response to the uprooting of traditions in a society where identity has been lost due to the concretization of urban centres. He believes that only by respecting tradition and a sense of place can we ensure ourselves a viable future. However he is not nostalgic in his approach, to think about the future one must have a keen understanding of the past.

A selection of photographs from the second part of the book are on display in the showrooms, including a series from the section “Back To The Roots” in which Cassina interprets Zhao Yang’s ideas.
