Cassina continues its research on the Duc sofa by Mario Bellini and adds the new Duc-Duc version, as avantgarde as ever
The project at the centre of research
This iconic sofa’s clean cut and decisive design, designed by Mario Bellini in 1976, is testimony to the boundless creative spirit of the 70s.
In 1977 Cassina commissioned Mario Bellini to make the ‘Libro dell’Arredamento’ (book of furniture) that, through an abacus of products differing in function and materials, offered various solutions to furnish the home based on one’s needs. It is in this context that important experimental work was conducted with the company's Research and Development Centre to produce the Duc.
Today, Cassina continues this approach by renewing and updating the model, both in terms of comfort and size of the seat while maintaining its characteristic panel structure.
Always at the forefront, Cassina LAB comes onboard
The Duc sofa is an original project founded on the combination of cutting-edge materials and structural technology. The new Duc-Duc continues to be an innovative project thanks to the study carried out by Cassina LAB, a collaboration between the Cassina Research and Development Centre and Poli.design at the Milan Polytechnic. The padding of the polyurethane foam cushions has now been wrapped in a 100% recycled fibre, obtained from PET mainly recovered from the sea, further improving its comfort compared to a traditional padding.
This research is part of a more in-depth project that expresses the company's desire to identify alternative materials to adopt in the development of its products as well as to promote the general well-being of its users.
Duc-Duc, a sophisticated design
Like the Duc, the characteristic panels of the Duc-Duc are assembled by means of a zip that runs straight up its sides, defining its elegant silhouette.
This new, more minimal version does not feature the padded side cushions like the first model, however it is possible to add optional cushions for the armrests.
Duc-Duc is available as a two or three-seater sofa and an armchair, perfect for any room of the house, from the living room to the sleeping area.
