Floe Insel emerged fromPatricia Urquiola’s desireto create an unforgettable,versatile modular system,inspired by icebergs, whosesculptural, monolithic bulkfloats weightlessly on water.A soft mass, made up ofdifferent geometries providedby a play of angles recallsformless blocks of ice.A family of dynamic elementswhich – through its generousvolumes – evokes a classicalelement, comfort, derivingfrom in-depth research aimedat achieving the best possiblebalance between cushionthickness and softness;the careful study of the ratiobetween elastic belts andthe inner gaps in the foamgive the seat and backrestcushions the optimumflexibility, without sacrificingtheir asymmetrical features.The system comprisesa three-seater sofa and afootrest, which can be usedindependently. The two endpieces and chaise longue,in two different sizes, can becombined together. Each ofthe modular elements has anoriginal 25° asymmetrical cut,making it unique and different.The seat and backrestcushions have horizontalribbed stitching thatemphasise their shape.The backrest and armrestcushions are embellishedwith a padded trim that runsaround the edges.Every element is equippedwith a foot, which emergeswhere the backrest meetsthe armrest. There is also aseries of optional cushions intwo different sizes (40x50 cm and 50x60 cm) with downpadding and upholstery witha special band whose paddedtrim matches the motif aroundthe edges of the armrestand backrest cushions.• Structure: tubular steelwith webbing.• Padding: CFC-free foamedpolyurethane and polyesterwadding.• Feet: black lacqueredaluminium.• Removable upholsteryin fabric or leather.
