The rigorous design of this chair is a perfect exemplar of Frank Lloyd Wright’s design ethos. This can be seen in the tall backs and the strong uprights, the use of wood, typical of the furniture he designed for his prairie houses. This chair was created for the dining room of Frederick C. Robie’s home, one of the most important houses in American architectural history. The designer’s intention was that the chair define the area around the dining table, making it more intimate than the rest of the room. The austere elegance of the Robie 1 has been reproduced by Cassina in the total respect of the original drawings, with the able assistance of the furniture-making mastery typical the craftsmen of the Cassina tradition, the quality of which is world-renowned.
