Cassina awarded the Wallpaper Design Award 2012 for the LC1 Outdoor armchair by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand
11th January 2012. The LC1 Outdoor armchair, the icon of modern rationalism adapted for outdoor use, has been awarded Best Domestic Design by the prestigious international magazine Wallpaper.
For the first time masterworks from the Modern Movement have been developed by Cassina, creating an innovative interpretation for the brand’s new Outdoor Collection. Following in-depth research, Cassina has sought to update the materials and construction details of the products in order to maximise resistance to water, humidity and heat in extreme outdoor conditions. Detailed research has identified high-performance technological solutions, the structure is made entirely from polished chrome-effect brushed INOX steel with special corrosion resistance properties strengthened by high silver content welding. Similar attention is focused on the upholstery, the specialised PVC-coated high-durability polyester fabric guarantees excellent colour fastness and resistance to water, oil-based substances and UV rays. The tailoring is designed to perfectly replicate the leather upholstery of the indoor model. The ISO 9001 certified fabric, available in five different colours, is stretched over the structure using specially designed polished stainless steel springs.
Cassina has developed this project in close collaboration with the Le Corbusier Foundation and Pernette Perriand-Barsac, daughter and sole heir of Charlotte Perriand together with the consultancy of authoritative design historian, Professor Arthur Rüegg.
The new Outdoor Collection is ideal for furnishing exterior public and collective spaces - from highly prestigious hotels to nautical environments - in which every single piece exudes great style and elegance. The impact of this collection in private residences is also stunning.
Every armchair comes with a protective water repellent cover for use during the winter season.
