Nest Of Tables

Design Bodil Kjaer

Trio of small tables

A collection of design low tables that blends elegance and practicality while promoting a contemporary lifestyle, ideal for a home where the rooms have flexible uses.

PRODUCTION YEAR

1963

From the postwar period, Danish architect Bodil Kjær opened up her home to a fresh new camaraderie encouraged by versatile furniture that translated the new domestic routines and a renewed need for comfort into tangible designs. Dissatisfied with the fragile, wobbly side tables popular at the time, Bodil Kjær’s pragmatic approach led her to design the set of three stackable, solid wood tables in 1963. With their nested concept and slender yet strong structure, Nest of Tables is an elegant and practical trio that meets the needs of flexible spaces. The table tops are available in many materials and colors, from tempered glass to saddle-hide paired with laminated metal, making the set a perfect match in any surroundings.

I CONTEMPORANEI

Bodil Kjaer

Bodil Kjær, Professor, Architect MAA (Member of the Association of Academic Architects in Denmark) was born in Denmark in 1932. She was educated in Denmark, England and the USA, and practised as an architect, designer and planner from her own offices in Copenhagen and London.

Between 1955 and 1963, while designing public interiors she developed a series of elements of architecture to solve problems of functional and aesthetic nature. These pieces of furniture, lamps and glass were not designed directly for production but, as other architects discovered them and wanted them for their buildings, they were put into production and marketed in the USA as well as in Europe.

Dissatisfied with the small, wobbly table-top options available, Bodil Kjær designed the Nesting Tables, modern stackable low tables with a unique cube structure that are not only stable and versatile but also elegant.

Nested one inside another, these tables make a subtle statement in a modern living room where their cube shape is sophisticated and discreet – small showpieces with their elegant tops in glass, saddle-hide or laminated metal.
