A selection of iconic pieces by Charlotte Perriand and produced exclusively by Cassina is on show at the “Super Japon” exhibition at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, celebrating the strong bond that the designer had with Japan. Here some of her most emblematic works are on show, including: the Tokyo Chaise Longue, the Doron Hotel and Ombra armchairs, the Table en Forme Libre, the Tabouret Berger and Méribel stools, the Graffiti rug, the Nuage à Plots bookcase, the Plana low table and the Mexique stools.

Charlotte Perriand’s work is deeply intertwined with her experience in Japan. Invited by the Japanese government in 1940 to contribute to the development of the country’s production in the industrial arts field, she greatly influenced the local design scene. Her experience in Japan, where she stayed from 1940 to 1942 and again from 1953 to 1955, was decisive in shaping a new design sensibility rooted in the exploration of new aesthetic values and the use of alternative materials. During her time there, she created projects that combined tradition and modernity, fully expressing her vision and talent.

Deeply aware of the importance of nature, Perriand knew how to originally combine Western elements and Eastern culture, resulting in organic, harmonious and sometimes essential forms that express an intuitive minimalism and a timeless approach.

Today, Charlotte Perriand’s works, produced in collaboration with her daughter and sole heir Pernette Perriand, embody the enduring power of an avant-garde vision that continues to shape and influence contemporary design.
