Hayama

Design Patricia Urquiola

Japanese-inspired

With her unmistakable design signature, what Patricia Urquiola creates is an invitation to travel, in the form of furniture – through the Hayama collection, made up of a cabinet, bar, hutch and console – all inspired by the traditional Japanese Haori jacket that is worn over a kimono.

These elegant lacquered pieces of furniture are a figurative example of the place where the finely crafted oblique legs meet the ancient art of lacquer finish, terrain upon which the Meda artisans thrive. The cabinet, in particular, stands on oblique legs in elegant contrast to the horizontal lines of the upper part, becoming the distinctive trait of a minimalist shape. The bar elicits a striking visual effect that lends depth to any space through a mirror that, on three sides, frames a shelf in extra-clear glass, while the lower part, made up of two centre drawers and two side compartments, is illuminated by LED lights.
