The Refuge Tonneau on show at Triennale Milano
Cassina takes part in the exhibition “White Out. The Future of Winter Sports” on show at Triennale Milano from the 28th of January to the 15th of March, with the reconstruction of the Refuge Tonneau designed by Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret.
This exhibition is part of the Milano Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympiad, the multidisciplinary, inclusive and widespread programme that will animate Italy by promoting Olympic values and fostering dialogue between art, culture and sport in the lead-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, which the country will host from the 6th to the 22nd of February and from the 6th to the 15th of March 2026 respectively.
Designed in 1938, the Refuge Tonneau was never produced until 2012, when Cassina brought the project to life for the first time through rigorous research conducted in close collaboration with Pernette Perriand and Jacques Barsac.
Located in the museum’s atrium, this visionary mountain shelter fits perfectly into the retrospective curated by Konstantin Grcic and Marco Sammicheli, which investigates the relationship between sporting practices, design and innovation, offering a reflection on the future of winter sports in the light of the climate crisis.
Almost ninety years after its design, the Refuge Tonneau still today represents an emblem of the balance between human needs and the optimisation of confined spaces.
