Trained as a designer, he has the ability to pull fragments together into precise, ethical, significant objects whose presence stands as a silent questioning because those fragments are pieces of ideas, considered at length, and of physical experience with the materials and shapes that continue to vibrate in their newly acquired finiteness. His quest, shared with his brother Giuseppe, is lost in the convoluted folds of design and of experimentation and arrives at its destination through synthesis and by discarding all that which is superfluous and does not better render the idea. Hence, perhaps, the absolute freedom from hierarchies among the intrinsic and formal elements of all that he does.

He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara [Carrara Academy of Fine Arts] and then at ISIA Firenze (Institute of Industrial Arts of Florence) where he earned a degree in industrial design. In 1990, he worked as assistant in the studio of Enzo Mari. He exhibited at the Salone Satellite Show [during the Milan Furniture Fair] in 2000 and won first place in the Design Report (magazine) Awards. In 2009, he held his first solo show at the Fabbrica del Vapore, curated by Beppe Finessi. The following year, he presented “Tra gioco e discarica” his second solo show, at the Triennale di Milano, this time curated by Enzo Mari. He was invited to the VI edition of the Triennale Design Museum in 2013 where he produced an installation dedicated to the work of Vico Magistretti. In 2014 and 2015, he designed the installations for the annual exhibits at the Vico Magistretti Foundation museum. In 2016, a solo show dedicated to him was mounted at Palazzo Mediceo di Seravezza. Concurrent with his work as a designer, he taught at the leading universities and design schools. He has partnered with Droog Design and with Italian companies, including Driade, Fontana Arte, Danese, Zani&Zani, Azzurra Ceramiche, UpGroup, Zava Luce, Antonio Lupi and Bufalini. In 2020, he curated the installation of the Enzo Mari retrospective, curated by Hans Hulrich Obrist and Francesca Giacomelli, held at the Triennale di Milano. Some of his designs are part of the permanent collections of the Triennale Design Museum, the London Design Museum and the Montreal Museum of Fine Art.
