The New York skyline in a sofa, from the genius of Gaetano Pesce. Design becomes narrative in this visionary work that returns in a special series of 50 pieces. This imaginative creation is a new chapter in a story begun in the 1980s with Tramonto a New York, the work with which Pesce surprised his adoptive city at sunset to then return the image through a series of spacious upholstered pieces arranged as if to reproduce its skyline. The three-seat sofa combines eloquent energy and meticulous structural functionality. The system comprises nine skyscraper-modules that serve as seats and armrests, joined to one another by fasteners. The backrest portrays a giant full moon – through this work, Pesce reveals to the world its mysterious side, not visible from Earth. Cassina reinterprets Notturno a New York in a version with a conscious soul. The padding of the new edition is made of recycled PET fibre, introduced as standard in the upholstered pieces, and reducing to a minimum the use of polyurethane, crafted with a percentage of polyols derived from biological sources. The upholstery is in an exclusive fabric with a design made specifically for this product.
I CONTEMPORANEI
Gaetano Pesce was born in La Spezia in 1939. He studied architecture at the IUAV in Venice, and attended the Venice Institute of Industrial design. At this experimental school, he met Milena Vettore with whom he opened a studio in Padua, founding in 1959 the “N” Group which focussed on with studies in programmed art.
