60th anniversary of the production of the
Le Corbusier®, Pierre Jeanneret®, Charlotte Perriand® Collection
edited by Cassina
In 1965, while Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand were still alive, Cassina began production of their first four groundbreaking furniture models. This visionary decision, facilitated through the entrepreneur Dino Gavina who introduced Cesare Cassina to Heidi Weber, detainer of the production rights at the time, initiated a unique reissuing process that set the foundations for this iconic collection.
The Cassina Research and Development department, in collaboration with experts and historians, meticulously studied the historical drawings of these handcrafted furnishings, first presented to the public in 1929 at the revolutionary interior design installation “L'Équipement intérieur d'une habitation” at the “Salon d’Automne” in Paris. Thanks to the company’s technical prowess and commitment to innovation, Cassina advanced these models from a small artisanal production to an industrial manufacturing process. Their commercial success went hand in hand with Cassina’s internationalisation; the company soon distributed the products worldwide, making them the familiar icons that they have become today.
Over the years Cassina has continued to expand and update the collection, working side by side with the Le Corbusier Foundation and the heirs of Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret, by introducing new products, numerous technical innovations and circular materials, always with the upmost respect for the authentic spirit of the original project.
LIMITED EDITIONS: COLOUR IS KEY
In celebration its sixtieth anniversary, the first four models of the Le Corbusier®, Pierre Jeanneret®, Charlotte Perriand® Collection - the 1 Fauteuil dossier basculant small armchair, the 2 Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle and 3 Fauteuil Grand Confort, grand modèle armchairs and the 4 Chaise longue à réglage continu - are now available for a limited period of time only in three new colourways.
Red, blue and green glossy frames combined with ton-sur-ton mohair velvet for the armchairs and self-supporting saddle leather for the chaise-longue and sling-back armchair, define these contemporary pieces that can be ordered up until September 2026.
Studied together with the Le Corbusier Foundation and the heirs of Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, these special editions, part of the ‘durable’ series produced with circular materials in favour of greater sustainability, highlight the importance of colour for the designers and result in a fresh and even more actual proposal for today’s home.
STAGING MODERNITY
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the production of the Le Corbusier®, Pierre Jeanneret®, Charlotte Perriand® Collection edited by Cassina, Formafantasma presents an artistic installation and a theatrical performance inside the Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber, paying tribute to the company’s avant-garde legacy.
This thoughtful and provocative intervention questions the dissonance between modernist ideals and the contemporary world, inviting visitors to reflect on an ever-evolving vision that moves away from the industrial and rational, embracing instead a wild, natural ecology.
During Milano Design Week, an immersive theatrical experience—an integral part of the installation—is brought to life under the direction of Fabio Cherstich. The performance is based on three original texts commissioned from philosopher Emanuele Coccia, architect, writer and curator Andrés Jaque, and architect and artist Feifei Zhou (terriStories).
A New Modernity
The Concept
The performance
THE RATIONAL MACHINE FOR LIVING EVOLVES INTO A NATURAL AND WILD ECOLOGY
At its core, ‘Staging Modernity’ critiques the binary oppositions that have historically structured modernist discourse: the mechanized, the rational and the civilized on one side; and the natural, the organic and the wild on the other. The installation asks, what happens when we no longer adhere to these distinctions? What happens when modernity is confronted with a broader ecology—one that includes non-human actors, animals and ecosystems, as well as the forces of culture, industry and technology?
The fragmented presentation of Le Corbusier, Perriand and Jeanneret's work in Staging Modernity is not an abstraction but a reflection of the dissonance between modernist ideals and the contemporary world. While the mid-20th Century celebrated a clean break from tradition, today we find ourselves grappling with the unintended consequences of that break, where the lines between the human-made and the natural are increasingly difficult to navigate. Through this intervention, Formafantasma proposes a new lens through which to see modernism—not as a fixed, static ideology but as a continually evolving conversation with the present.
“In essence, ‘Staging Modernity’ is a critical tribute. It honours the groundbreaking vision of Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, while also offering space open to new reflections and interpretations on modernity.”

‘STAGING MODERNITY’: THE LEGACY OF MODERNIST IDEALS IN A CONTEMPORARY WORLD
During Milan Design Week 2025, at the Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber, the Italian duo Formafantasma present ‘Staging Modernity’, a theatrical performance and installation, that celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Le Corbusier®, Pierre Jeanneret®, Charlotte Perriand® Collection with a thoughtful and provocative interpretation of the legacy of Modernism.
“This project aims to challenge the conventional narratives around modernity, domesticity and design while examining the deep cultural implications of these ideas today.”
Formafantasma
‘Staging Modernity’ takes the floor plan of the ‘Salon d’Automne’, a milestone in the history of modern architecture and design, as its starting point. This historical moment sought to redefine the domestic environment as an industrial and functional machine à habiter (machine for living) and liberate it from the weight of tradition. By introducing their tubular metal furniture, Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret distanced their new modern aesthetic from the traditional wood workmanship of the time. This radical break was intended not only as a design shift but as a symbol of modernity itself: a forward-thinking, industrial and rational world untethered from the past.
Rather than simply revisiting or commemorating this historical moment, Formafantasma’s installation ‘Staging Modernity’ fragments it by scattering elements across the space as if they were sketches or drafts. These fragments, like pieces of a puzzle, evoke the idea of a vision once whole but now fractured, offering a lens through which to reconsider the idealized conception of modernity.
Le Corbusier, Perriand and Jeanneret’s work, deeply embedded in the philosophy of rationality and progress, is re-imagined in Formafantasma’s intervention, not as a pristine vision of industrial perfection but as something
more open and porous. The space is populated by animal reproductions, breaking down the divide between what is considered "human" and "non-human", or between the modern and the savage.
THE THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE
Over the course of the week, theatrical performances directed by Fabio Cherstich featuring professional actors will be activated as an integral part of the installation. Based on three commissioned texts by philosopher Emanuele Coccia, architect, writer and curator Andrés Jaque and architect and artist Feifei Zhou (terriStories), reflection on the ideological and material implications of modernity and nature are further
explored, moving beyond the static and the visual to include the performative, the auditory and the embodied in a completely immersive experience for the public.
"I imagine a performance in which a chorus inhabits the space, interacting with objects in unconventional ways. Bodies explore its structural limits, adapting and redefining its function, to the point of dissolving any hierarchy between man, object and nature. As a consequence, the theatre, a typically conventional place, becomes a space for poetic sharing where everything can be transformed. A scenic utopia in which the physical presence restores to the theatre its most authentic evocative power."
Fabio Cherstich, Director.
For this occasion, Cassina continues its mission to support and nurture young talent through the involvement of artists from local performing arts academies and students from Domus Academy who will be available to explain the project to the public.
Following Milan Design Week, Cassina would like to donate a selection of the animal reproductions for educational and cultural purposes, while the remaining pieces will be cared for in the Cassina Archives.
