The Cassina Perspective on Sustainability

Cassina’s commitment to adopting a more sustainable approach is an ongoing process, the focus of continually evolving research grounded in the company’s core values. This translates into an integrated vision in which sustainability practices characterise every operational area, in order to meet environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements.

Thanks to its pioneering mindset, Cassina has invested in a production process that is attentive to environmental aspects at every stage, in order to design and create durable products that best represent Italian manufacturing excellence.

At the same time, the company promotes initiatives to enhance the wellbeing of its people and to strengthen its relationship with the local area, recognising corporate social responsibility as an essential value for genuinely sustainable development.

Finally, Cassina follows a governance model founded on the principles of honesty, integrity and transparency, aimed at generating shared value for all stakeholders and ensuring accountability in business operations. To guarantee the effectiveness of this system, Cassina has introduced an Organisation, Management and Control Model pursuant to Italian Legislative Decree 231/2001.

Rethinking the future of design, adopting a more responsible attitude towards the environment and society is a priority for Cassina.”

The Cassina Perspective on Product

Cassina products have consistently embodied the perfect union of artisan excellence and innovation.

Cassina LAB was launched in 2020, a project born from a collaboration with POLI.design at the Milan Polytechnic, to promote a more conscious design process. For Cassina, this concept is achieved through identification of innovative materials to be employed in the manufacture of products, which have an increasing focus on disassemblability, and in the development of designs able to offer functions that enhance wellbeing.

Cassina's design philosophy on product sustainability

Timeless design: good design is inherently more sustainable as it interprets a series of values such as excellence, innovation and the promotion of design culture.

Circularity: a design concept oriented towards researching innovative, circular materials for use in product manufacturing that focuses particular attention on product disassemblability, facilitating the recovery and recycling of materials at end-of-life.

Wellbeing: improve the quality of life through design solutions, particularly in the bedroom, through the use of hygienic and non-toxic materials capable of reducing sound reverberation around the bed’s headboard, as well as employing a purifying fabric on its bedframe to promote the natural circulation of clean air.

Circularity measurement

For years, Cassina employs Circular Tool, an instrument created to optimise the design and production phases which, thanks to tangible data, makes it possible to quantitatively measure the circularity of products, analysing key indicators related to disassemblability, recyclability, energy recovery and end-of-life scenarios.

This tool is based on a continuously updated technical framework and provides a scientific basis for guiding design choices with the aim of reducing environmental impact from day one.

Aligned with leading international circular-economy standards, the Circular Tool is validated by an independent body and makes it possible to obtain evaluations compliant with the ISO 14021:2021, ISO 59004:2024, ISO 59020:2024, ISO 59040:2024 and ISO 14009:2024 standards, anticipating the requirements of the forthcoming Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).

TOP EMPLOYERS

Top Employers

In 2024 and 2025, Cassina received the Top Employers certification, an accolade for organisations that generate a positive impact on the lives of their employees through excellence in a number of areas including human resources strategy and HR management, training and professional development, employee wellbeing and engagement, diversity and inclusion, and corporate culture.

Awarded by the Top Employers Institute to enable companies to assess and improve their workplace environment, this certification confirms Cassina’s ongoing commitment to valuing and supporting its people.

Gender Equality Certification UNI/PdR 125:2022

In 2025, Cassina initiated the process to obtain the UNI/PdR 125:2022 Gender Equality Certification. This initiative is a major step towards promoting a corporate culture that is increasingly inclusive, fair and attentive to its people.

Energy consumption and emissions management

The company actively contributes to achieving Haworth Inc.'s climate goals, including the use of 100% renewable electricity at its production sites by 2025 and the attainment of short- and long-term emission reduction targets approved by the SBTi.

Recognising the importance of involving the entire supply chain, Cassina focuses on the continuous improvement of procurement, production and logistic processes in order to progressively reduce environmental impacts along the entire value chain. In this context, the company has adopted a certified ISO 14001 Environmental Management System as part of a structured pathway aimed at optimising energy consumption and improving the overall efficiency of production sites.

Waste management

Consistent with Haworth Lifestyle’s waste management objectives, Cassina is actively working to reduce waste at the source, maximise recycling and minimise environmental impact. This is reflected in the goal of “Zero Waste to Landfill” by 2025 for its manufacturing facilities.

To limit the amount of waste generated during the production cycle, company intervention begins at the design phase by optimising the consumption of raw materials, valorising unavoidable offcuts and implementing rigorous, selective waste segregation. Cassina also passes on unusable leather remnants to companies specialising in small leather goods.
