Initially created for a textile design competition launched in 1947 by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Dot Pattern has become the most famous Eames motif, even though it never went into production during their lifetimes.
Dot Pattern reproduces a number of abstract cross-shaped compositions, achieved with tapered lines and solid dots.
After the textile design in 1947, the compositions remained a recurring theme in the work of Charles and Ray, and they explored their use in lighting for some showroom projects between 1949 and 1954.
The projects of Charles and Ray Eames are preserved at the Eames Office, the design studio founded by the pair in 1941 and now led by their grandchildren. Since 2024, in collaboration with the Eames Office and Form Portfolios, Cassina has transformed their creative legacy into a lighting collection that combines philological fidelity and innovation.
