Charles and Ray Eames

Charles Ormand Eames Jr., a nearly-licensed architect, and Ray-Bearnice Alexandra "Kaiser", an abstract painter, are cemented into the canon of 20th-century design. Since uniting in 1940, these partners in life and work have been internationally recognized at the forefront of the design, architecture, filmmaking, and furniture communities. In their lifetime, the Eameses established techniques in molding plywood for industrial and residential applications, built homes and showrooms from industrial materials in the post-war years, and created unique communication methods with one of their most beloved tools: the camera. Today, the Eames legacy is easily identified in the Eames Office’s most monumental projects: the Eames House, the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman and the film Powers of Ten. As individuals and as a couple, Charles and Ray continue to be cited as an inspiration to others—from musicians to astronomers to technological - innovators.
